JOB OPPORTUNITY

Part-time Equipment Manager

NSCR empowers individuals, transforms lives, and builds community through the sport of rowing.

Are you hands-on, curious, and looking to support a small nonprofit serving adaptive and recreational athletes? North Star Community Rowing is searching for a new Equipment Manager to help keep our small but mighty fleet on the water.

Our long-time volunteer Commodore/Equipment Manager is easing into retirement, and we're looking for someone in the Twin Cities area to take over her duties. She'll work alongside the incoming Equipment Manager to make the handoff smooth.

A note on compensation: this has traditionally been a volunteer role. We're open to discussing a stipend or other arrangement for the right candidate

What You'll Do

  • Learn the ropes: Train alongside our current Equipment Manager to learn the ins and outs of the role.

  • Fleet upkeep: Repair damage to boats, oars, and rowing machines.

  • Rigging and boat setup: Measure and adjust boat geometry to fit each athlete's mechanics: height, span, pitch, and oarlock placement

  • Interact with staff: Work with the coaches to make necessary adjustments to equipment for adaptive use

  • Equipment purchasing and maintenance: Oversee routine purchases and upkeep of outdoor equipment (motorboat, rowing shells, oars, adaptive equipment and modifications, life vests) and indoor equipment (ergs, adaptive equipment and modifications).

  • Regatta transport: Trailer or car-top doubles and other equipment for one to two local regattas per year.

  • Donations: Manage incoming equipment donations.

Time Commitment

Hours are mostly flexible and vary by season. The busiest stretches are equipment transport days: moving gear from storage to the lake each spring and back to storage each fall, plus one or two local regattas.

Preferred Qualifications

Some of these can be learned on the job:

  • A desire to uphold NSCR's mission

  • Familiarity with the sport of rowing

  • Experience with adaptive athletes and equipment, or a willingness to learn

  • A hands-on, curious, technical mindset

  • Access to a truck
